Stacking new life into Heritage sites.

    August 18, 2015

Tucked beneath the heritage warehouses on the northern approach to the harbour bridge fronting a cool Melbourne-like laneway at Lavender Bay, Bay 9, which is due for completetion in December 2015, is part of the growing Middlemiss Street community. Next door is Bay 10, home of Barista Nathan Devlin’s cool espresso bar; The Body Mechanic, a specialist bike fit, gait analysis and physio outfit run by a bunch of elite athletes; and hot new tech start-up Pod Tracker. It’s a stunning location with the century-old concrete walls of the Bay 9 warehouse soaring from floor to ceiling and a dramatic expanse of window wall that scatters the morning light. The space is being reinvented by architect Julian Brenchley, retaining the raw industrial heritage and creating an inner sanctum of modern office pods from recycled materials. There’ll be places for cocooning or co-creating; for just you or you and your growing team. Three levels of work space will provide mixed configurations of self-contained offices, shared workspace and boardrooms. At ground level an area is reserved for wellness activities morphing into exhibition and demonstration space when required.
